Animals

The wetlands are favourable habitats for breeding protected mammals such as the Euopean otter and the European mink.

Small herbivores like the warren and hare occupy the open or semi-open areas (cultivated plains, groves, moors, dunes and regional dry grasslands). Red foxes, martens and wild boar live in fields, woods and peri-urban areas.

In the forests one can find badgers, red deer and some species of bats (greater horseshoe bat and lesser noctule), the smallest European deer also live in the forest, easily visible in the region.

They are often run into by cars, so one must be attentive to this when driving on rural roads, especially at night.
