Insects
The Poitou-Charentes region on the west coast of France has a very varied landscape, many different types of biotopes and a rich flora and fauna with insects.
The marshes of the Marais Poitevin regional nature park have their own unique ecosystem with many insects. This area is also sometimes called ‘Venice Vert’ (green Venice). You can easily explore it by boat.
The fauna represented in the Poitou-Charentes region is sparse in comparison to the plant biomass present.
However, the multiplicity of habitats (marshes, forests, heathlands, coastal zones, etc…) means that there is certainly a wealth of regional wildlife. Insectivores are well represented including birds and bats.
