Château de la Mercerie
The castle of La Mercerie is located in Magnac-Lavalette-Villars in the Charente.
The castle of La Mercerie is one of the jewels of Charente. The small Versailles Charentais is unique for its exceptional heritage. The only castle built in the 20th century, possessing the longest 220 square meter long façade of neo-classical style.
This castle museum is the work of two brothers Réthoré. Raymond and Alphonse settled in Magnac-Lavalette in 1925 who will spend their lives acquiring various works of art.
In 2011, the commune of Magnac-Lavalette-Villars and the association restore it after 30 years of abandonment. Today it regains its splendor thanks to the valiant volunteers.
It is open from April to November every day, except on Wednesday and Saturday closing days.
