Angoulême
The capital city of the Charente Department, Angoulême, is a hill town situated on the river Charente. Everything you need is there, from the big supermarkets to upmarket fashion stores.
Every year there is the Circuit des Remparts event, where classic cars parade and race around the town ramparts in September.
Why not rent a canoe or electric boat and go exploring the river Charente. Or have a round of golf at the Club De l’Hirondelle. There is lots to do here.
Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée
Host of the world-renowned bande dessinée festival, the ‘Comic Strip Capital’ of Angoulême boasts a wonderful museum dedicated to graphic novels, which stages interesting temporary exhibitions.You can also follow the Circuit des Murs Peints (Painted Walls Trail) and discover larger-than-life cartoon characters on 24 different murals around the city.
